Arun Art Printers manufactures to the regulatory requirements of each buyer’s destination market. For children’s books — a specialist line since 2004 — that means meeting US and EU children’s-product safety rules; for every product it means defined in-house quality control. We supply the documentation that buyers and their compliance teams need to clear an order.

Children’s books — United States (CPSIA)

US law treats children’s books differently according to format and age group, and we handle both cases directly:

• Ordinary paper and board books for readers aged 3 and over. These meet the US total-lead limit (100 ppm) and phthalate limits and qualify as “ordinary books” — paper or cardboard, printed with conventional inks, conventionally bound and intended to be read — which are exempt from third-party testing under the 2011 CPSIA amendment (Public Law 112-28). We provide a written conformity statement on request and apply the required tracking label.
• Board books and any titles intended for children under three. The ordinary-book exemption does not apply to these. We arrange CPSC-accepted third-party laboratory testing on a per-order basis and supply the test reports with the shipment.

Children’s books — European Union (EN71)

For shipments into the EU, children’s products are assessed against the EN71 safety standard, including the EN71-3 limits on the migration of certain elements. Where a title and market call for it, we arrange the applicable testing per order.

Materials and substances

Inks, coatings and substrates for children’s work are selected to meet the applicable lead and phthalate limits. Per-order test reports are available wherever a buyer or destination market requires them.

Quality control

Every job runs through in-house quality control across pre-press, press and finishing — pre-production proofs and sample approval before the bulk run, with in-process checks on the floor. See our infrastructure, press and pre-press pages for detail.
